Natalie Johnson, PhD

Biography

Dr. Johnson’s research interests focus on adverse health effects from air pollution exposure in pregnant women, children, and other vulnerable populations disproportionately exposed to pollutants, including fine and ultrafine particulate matter and volatile organic compound (VOC) mixtures.

Studies in the Johnson Lab include assessing exposure, at the individual and community level. Dr. Johnson directs the mobile responding to air pollution in disasters (mRAPiD van), a unique mobile platform that allows for real-time detection of chemical air pollutants. Dr. Johnson’s team is also investigating emerging environmental chemicals in breast milk.  

Additional studies in the Johnson Lab focus on the respiratory toxicology of inhaled pollutants. Her team is investigating effects of prenatal and pediatric exposures to air pollution and the long-term impacts on pulmonary immune development and respiratory disease risk.
